Round Table “Tobacco consumption in Ukraine: changes within last seven years”. Press-release
On February 14, 2017 the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office in Europe, WHO Country Office in Ukraine, Kiev International Institute of Sociology and the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine held a round table devoted to the second Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) conducted in Ukraine in 2017. The comprehensive report based on the survey results was discussed with specialists from the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, research institutes, educational and medical facilities. Involvement of leading specialists and experts in discussion of tobacco topics is highly important. Dr. Marthe Everard, WHO Representative and Head of Country Office to Ukraine, stressed that the GATS which was conducted second time in Ukraine, allowed not only to realize the progress in tobacco control and detect the existing problems but also to raise the number of questions for further research. This will allow to better understand specific of tobacco control in Ukraine, sentiments of society and certain groups which will result in more well-thought-out measures in tobacco control.
