The attitude of Ukrainians to the decision of Russia to bring troops into Ukraine

In a period from 7th to 9th of March, 2014 Kyiv International Institute of Sociology conducted its own express-poll using the method of computer assisted telephone interview (both stationary and mobile phones were used). There were 1020 respondents, living in all regions of Ukraine and in Crimea. Sample is random and representative for the population of Ukraine aged 18 and above.

Statistical sample error (with probability of 0.95 and design-effect of 1.5) does not exceed:
4,8% — for indicators close to 50%;
4,2% — for indicators close to 25% and 75%;
3,0% — for indicators close to 10% and 90%;
2,1% — for indicators close to 5% and 95%.

Respondents were provided with the following question:

Federation Council of Russia allowed the President of Russia Vladimir Putin to bring the troops on the territory of Ukraine. What do you think about this decision?

83% of Ukrainians condemn the decision (77% fully condemn and 6% rather condemn), 9% - approve the decision.

Despite of significant regional differentiation, the majority of Ukrainians in all regions condemn the decision: 93% - in the Western region (4% approve), the same percentage in the Central region (93% condemn, 4% approve), 73% - in the South region (15% approve), 68% - in the Eastern region (15% approve).

Gender difference is not significant.The level of condemnation increases along with the increasing of the level of education: 71% of people, who did not complete their secondary school program, condemn the decision of Federation Council of Russia (11% approve); among people with secondary education 82% condemn and 9% approve the decision; among people with higher education 85% condemn and 8% approve the decision. Age difference is insignificant: 83-85% condemn the decision (only among people aged 70+ the percentage of those who is against the decision is 77%), 7-10% approve.
