What positive changes euro 2012 will bring and evaluation of football officials

Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) conducted a nationwide opinion poll during the period of April 21 to May 2, 2012. 1636 respondents were interviewed; the survey covered all regions of Ukraine (including the city of Kyiv) and Crimea; sample was random and representative for the population of Ukraine aged 16 years and above.

 

All the respondents were asked whether they were football fans. Those respondents who responded that they were "very interested" or "likely to be interested" in football, were considered to be football fans. Only these respondents participated in the follow up interviews (total number of respondents constitutes 1,636).

 

Theoretical error for sample consisting of 1636 respondents is 2.5%.

 

The data is compared with KIIS survey results obtained last year, during the study on June 10-20, 2011, where 714 fans (respondents "strongly interested" or "likely to be interested" in football) were interviewed, and sample participants were aged 18 years and older.

 

A relative majority of Ukrainian fans believe that the European Football Championship 2012 in Ukraine will be a success.

 

  •  11.2% of respondents think that EURO 2012 will be a "total success"

  •  49% of fans believe that EURO 2012 is "likely to be a successful"

  •  23.9% of respondents of the survey hold to the idea that EURO 2012 to be held in Ukraine is "not likely to be a success"

  •  4.3% of those who participated in the research to think that championship will be a “total failure”

 

The most often factors which Ukrainian fans consider to be positive changes caused by EURO 2012, are as follows: stadiums reconstruction, improvement of the image of Ukraine and improvement in the quality of roads in the country.

 

  •  37.3% of fans think that the reconstruction of stadiums in Ukraine will be a positive result of EURO 2012

  •  28.6% of respondents consider improvement of the image of Ukraine to be a positive outcome of the European Football Championship 2012

  •  21.4% of respondents chose the answer "improvement of the quality of roads" as a positive result of Euro 2012 in our country

  •  17.6% fans think that EURO 2012 will help to promote our country in the world

  •  14.7% of participants of the survey answered “construction of new airports and existence of high-speed trains in Ukraine”

  •  The same number of respondents (14.7%) believes EURO 2012 to be an event which will raise interest in football

  • The vast majority of fans of Ukraine consider the appointment of Oleg Blokhin for the position of the head coach of the national team to be a right decision.

  •  48% of football fans believe this appointment to be "totally right"

  •  37% of respondents hold to the opinion that the appointment of Oleg Blokhin is "probably right"

  •  6.5% of the respondents think that the choice of the head trainer for the national team is "probably wrong"

  •  2.4% of study participants reported that the decision was "completely wrong"

 

A relative majority of Ukrainian fans consider the work of Gregory Surkis as a Chairman of the Football Federation of Ukraine to be well done (39.2% of respondents said his work was good, 23% of survey participants considered his performance to be bad).

 

- 12.6% of respondents assessed the work of Grigory Surkis as a Chairman of the Football Federation of Ukraine as "good" one

 

- 26.6% of Ukrainian football fans evaluated the work of G. Surkis as "rather good" one

 

- 30.3% of respondents chose an alternative "neither good nor bad" when asked about their opinion on the performance by G. Surkis

 

- 13% rated the activities of Grigoriy Surkis as "rather bad"

 

- 10% answered "totally bad"

 

Among the "Dynamo" fans (respondents who strongly favor Kyiv football club in the Ukrainian championship) 49% evaluate the work of G. Surkis as good one, 28% - "neither good nor bad", 16% - more or less bad.

 

Among the fans of "Shakhtar" (respondents who strongly favor Donetsk football club in the Ukrainian championship) 24% evaluate the work of G. Surkis as good one, 35% - "neither good nor bad", 32% - more or less bad.

 

Among the fans of all other clubs (respondents who strongly favor any other football club except “Shakhtar” and “Dynamo” in the Ukrainian championship), 39% evaluate the work of G. Surkis as good one, 30% - "neither good nor bad", 24% - more or less bad.

 

 

Answering the question about the usefulness or harmfulness of Grigoriy Surkis’ performance as a Chairman of the Football Federation of Ukraine during the whole period of his appointment for the Ukrainian football, fans often believe that it was useful (44.6% appreciated his work as useful, 15.1% - as harmful one).

 

- 11.2% of respondents believe that the work of G. Surkis was useful

 

- 33.4% of fans answered his work was “more useful”

 

- 32.2% believe that the work of G. Surkis was "neither useful nor harmful"

 

- 10.6% of respondents hold to the opinion that the work of G. Surkis was "more harmful"

 

- 4.6% of study participants believe that it was “totally harmful”

 

Among the fans of "Dynamo" (respondents who strongly favor Kyiv football club in the Ukrainian championship), 52% of respondents consider the activities of G. Surkis to be useful, 29% give the answer "equally useful and harmful", 12% of fans believe it to be harmful.

 

Among the fans of "Shakhtar" (respondents who strongly favor Kyiv football club in the Ukrainian championship) 32% of respondents consider the activities of G. Surkis to be useful, 38% give the answer "equally useful and harmful", 20% of fans believe it to be harmful.

 

Among the fans of all other clubs (respondents who strongly favor any other football club except “Shakhtar” and “Dynamo” in the Ukrainian championship), 47% of respondents consider the activities of G. Surkis to be useful, 31% give the answer "equally useful and harmful", 16% of fans believe it to be harmful.
