Ukrainian society over the 25 years: dynamics of some social indices

Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) – one of the first research companies that appeared in independent Ukraine. Over the 25 years of its existence, KIIS has conducted thousands of researches and accumulated the significant amount of data. Now KIIS execute about 150 projects per year. In the following press release, we present some indices that characterize the changes that took place in the Ukrainian society over this period.

Some of the topics that are a subject of KIIS research during many years and are presented are – the level of well-being, happiness and health, geopolitical orientations of the Ukrainians, the attitude of the population of Ukraine toward Russia and vice versa, the dynamics of the Internet usage, trust to social institutions.

All data are received as the result of the KIIS own regular researches named KIIS Omnibus.

KIIS Omnibus is a regular multi-purpose polling of the population that is conducted by request of a few clients with different goals who finance the poll together. KIIS has been conducting 4 omnibus surveys per year for a long time already.

Most of the data presented were collected by KIIS with its own cost.

The methodology of the Omnibus survey. All-Ukrainian public opinion poll implies personal interviewing of about 2000 respondents living in 100 settlements in all regions of Ukraine (except for the AR of Crimea since 2014) using the stochastic 4-stage sample representative of the population of Ukraine aged 18 and above.

Since 2014, in Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts the survey has been conducting only in the territories that are controlled by the Ukrainian government.

The statistical sampling error (with a probability of 0.95 and for a design effect of 1.5) does not exceed: 3.3% — for indexes close to 50%, 2.8% — for indexes close to 25%, 2.0% — for indexes close to 10%, 1.4% — for indexes close to 5%.
