WHY UKRAINIANS MAY NOT WANT TO PAY TAXES?

80.3% of responses to the question "Why do you think ordinary citizens might not want to pay taxes?" the option "Due to low incomes that do not allow to ensure a decent standard of living" was chosen (several options could be chosen).

This is stated in the results of a sociological survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology at the request of the CASE Ukraine Center for Socio-Economic Researches. The analysis was prepared by Case Ukraine https://case-ukraine.com.ua/news/ukrayintsi-ne-hochut-platyty-podatky-cherez-nyzki-dohody-ta-sumnivni-derzhavni-vydatky-opytuvannya-case-ukrayina/

On the other hand, 73.6% of the answers came with the option "Due to the belief that the paid money is being stolen or wasted".

Also, 65.8% of the answers related to the impossibility of influencing where the state spends taxes. 59.8% of answers were given to the option about the low quality of state services.

Tax evasion by other citizens was mentioned in 56.6% of responses.

Other reasons accounted for only 11.2% of responses.

The research was conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology from May 11 to June 12, 2023. Based on a random sample of mobile phone numbers, 2,013 respondents aged 18 and over were interviewed. The sample did not include residents of territories that were not temporarily controlled by the authorities of Ukraine until February 24, 2022, and citizens who left the country after February 24, 2022. The statistical sampling error does not exceed 2.4%.
