"Intentions of Ukraine" - results of conjoint nationwide sociological survey KIIS and SOCIS
All-Ukrainian civic organization “Committee of voters of Ukraine” presents the results of nationwide sociological survey “Nastroi Ukrainy (Intentions of Ukraine)” held by two sociological services - Center for Social and Marketing Research “SOCIS” and Kiev International Institute of Sociology. Survey was conducted by two research centers in a period from January 24 to February 1, 2014 throughout Ukraine using the method of personal interviews in the places of living of respondents. The method of respondents selection - a quota sample (on the basis of age and gender). The sample aged 18 and above is representative for Ukraine in general (2400 respondents) in terms of age, gender and type of settlement (urban / rural). Statistical sampling error (confidence interval) is +/- 2.0%. Attitude to the protests Thoughts of the Ukrainians about protests were divided almost equally. Number of respondents who supports the protest intentions of citizens is almost 47% (26.8% - fully support, 20.9% - rather support). The vast majority of citizens (63.3%) believes that to gain a positive outcome of the protest, the public negotiations with authorities should be held, and only 11.1% think that it is better to the use the force. How should protesters act in defending their rights, %
Respondents also expressed their opinion on who should be the leader of political protests to manage actions against the government. Most citizens voted for V. Klychko (20.4%), 12.6% - for P.Poroshenko, 6.3% - for A.Yatseniuk. Who should be the leader of political protests, %
Electoral intentions of the Ukrainians Ukrainians show a fairly high level of electoral activity, because about 80% of voters are ready or rather willing to participate in voting. At the same time, the amount of those, who has the opposite opinion is around 16%. Willingness to participate in the voting on Presidential election in Ukraine, %
As for the electoral preferences in the presidential elections, electoral orientation of the Ukrainians divided as follows: if presidential elections were held next Sunday, 20,9% would support the current president Viktor Yanukovych , 20.1% would vote for V. Klitschko, and 13,0% - for P.Poroshenko. A.Yatsenyuk, in turn, would receive 6.4% of the votes, the leader of the Communist Party P.Symonenko - 3.8%, and the leader of UU "Svoboda" Tyahnybok - 2.8%. If Y. Tymoshenko would be amongst the candidates on the elections (and if A. Yatseniuk would not be, respectively), the votes of the Ukrainians would be distributed in the following way: V. Yanukovych keeps the leadership – 20,8%, second place is occupied by V. Klychko – 16,1%, third place is for Y. Tymoshenko – 13,9%, P. Poroshenko would get 11,2% of votes, the leader of Communist party of Ukraine P.Symonenko – 3,3%, the leader of UU “Svoboda” O. Tyahnybok – 2,0%. As for the electoral preferences regarding parties, electoral orientation of the Ukrainians divided as follows: Party of Regions takes the first place with 21,9% of voters, party “Udar” – 17,0%, UU “Batkivschyna” takes the third place – 15,6%, party “Solidarnist” would get 7,5% of votes, Communist party of Ukraine and UU “Svoboda” also would have significant support from Ukraine`s population – 4,6% and 4,0% respectively. Other parties would have less than 1% of votes. It is necessary to note, that around a quarter of voters said they did not know which party to vote for and whether they would come to the polls on the day of the elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, if they occurred shortly. Foreign policy in Ukraine The respondents in the survey identified further course of foreign policy, which Ukraine should follow. Thus, 55.2% of citizens support Ukraine's accession to the European Union, and 44.8% would vote for joining the Customs Union, if such a referendum was held in the near future.
