Logical games have high popularity in Ukraine. Periodically logical games are played by a half of adult population. The most active players are young men, and the most popular games – checkers, chess and backgammon.

From September 12 to September 21, 2014 the Kiev International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) together with the Kiev Guo club "Satellite" conducted All-Ukrainian poll. 2035 respondents at the age of 18 years and older living in all regions of Ukraine in 110 settlements (except the Lugansk region and Autonomous Republic of Crimea) according to statistical selection were surveyed by the method of Interview.

The statistical error of selection (with probability 0.95 and at design-effect 1.5) doesn't exceed the following: 3.3% for indicators which are close to 50%, 2,8% – for indicators which are close to 25%, 2,0% – for indicators which are close to 10%, 1,4% – for indicators which are close to 5%, 0.7% for indicators which are close to 1 or 99%.

           POPULARITY OF LOGICAL GAMES

• The most famous logical games in Ukraine are draughts and chess. 87% of adult residents of Ukraine know about existence of draughts, 85% know about chess.

• Also in Ukraine many people heard about existence of such games as backgammon (47%), poker (46%) and bridge (21%).

• Other logical games listed in research are rather exotic for Ukraine: only 4% know about existence of Go game and less than 2% heard about such games as Syogi, Reversi, Kalaha, Rendzyu, Abalon, Syantsi, and Gomoku

           AWARENESS ON RULES OF LOGICAL GAMES

• The most of people in Ukraine is able to play checkers – 72% of adult residents of the country know the rules of this game.

• Slightly less than a half of respondents (47%) know the rules of the chess.

• 19% of respondents are able to play backgammon, poker – 16%, the bridge of 6%.

• The rules of other games know less than 1% of residents of Ukraine.

          POPULARITY OF LOGICAL GAMES

• By results of the poll, during the last 12 months a half (49, 6%) of adult residents of Ukraine played these or those logical games at least once.

• People, who play logical games, usually play not one but some games.

• Those, who plays chess, also has tendency to play backgammon, reversions and Gо.

• Those, who play bridge, quite often prefer playing poker, and vice versa – poker players prefer bridge.

• Players to the bridge quite often love poker and vice versa – poker players love the bridge.

• People who are interested in any "exotic" games, with a high probability play  some of them.

• Only the draught-lovers seldom play some other logical games.

           WHO IS MORE INCLINED TO PLAY LOGICAL GAMES?

• Logical games are played more often by men than by women – during the last year 61% of men and 40% of women played these or those logical games.

• Young people are more inclined to play logical games than elderly: during the last 12 months logical games were played by 61% of the youth, by 53% – 54% of adults at the age from 30 to 50 years old, and by less than 46% of the 50-years-old seniors.

• Tendency to logical games grows according to education level: logical games are played by about 40% of people with secondary education, 56% – with secondary special education and 59% of people with the higher education.

• Also logical games are more popular in the cities than in villages: in the cities logical games are played by 55%, in villages – by 38%.
