Public perception of the main problems (except war) and who should make efforts to fight corruption: results of a telephone survey conducted September 30-October 11, 2023

From September 30 to October 13, 2023, the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) conducted an all-Ukrainian public opinion survey "Omnibus", which included questions about top problems (except war) and who should make efforts to fight corruption. Bythemethodofcomputer-assistedtelephoneinterviews(CATI) based on a random sample of mobile phone numbers (with random generation of phone numbers and subsequent statistical weighting), 2,007 respondents living in all regions of Ukraine (except the AR of Crimea) were interviewed. The survey was conducted with adult (aged 18 and older) citizens of Ukraine who, at the time of the survey, lived on the territory of Ukraine (within the boundaries controlled by the authorities of Ukraine until February 24, 2022). Residents of temporarily occupied territories could not be included in the sample, and the survey was not conducted with citizens abroad.

Formally, under normal circumstances, the statistical error of such a sample (with a probability of 0.95 and taking into account the design effect of 1.1) did not exceed 2.4% for indicators close to 50%, 2.1% for indicators close to 25%, 1.5% - for indicators close to 10%, 1.1% - for indicators close to 5%.

Under conditions of war, in addition to the specified formal error, a certain systematic deviation is added. However, despite certain factors that may affect the quality of the results in "wartime" conditions, in general, we believe that the obtained results still retain a high degree of representativeness and allow a fairly reliable analysis of the public mood of the population.

Dynamics of perception of the direction of affairs in Ukraine and trust in certain institutions between May 2022 and October 2023

From September 30 to October 13, 2023, the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) conducted an all-Ukrainian public opinion survey "Omnibus", which included questions about the direction of affairs in Ukraine and trust in certain institutions. Bythemethodofcomputer-assistedtelephoneinterviews(CATI) based on a random sample of mobile phone numbers (with random generation of phone numbers and subsequent statistical weighting), 2,007 respondents living in all regions of Ukraine (except the Autonomous Republic of Crimea) were interviewed. The survey was conducted with adult (aged 18 and older) citizens of Ukraine who, at the time of the survey, lived on the territory of Ukraine (within the boundaries controlled by the Ukrainian authorities until February 24, 2022).

Also, the press release compares the current mood of the population with the mood of the population as of May 2022 (according to the results of a survey conducted by KIIS on May 23-27, 2023 and in the framework of which 1,201 respondents were interviewed by the method of telephone interviews).

RESULTS OF ALL-UKRAINIAN SOCIOLOGICAL SURVEY ON KNOWLEDGE AND PERCEPTION OF THE ACTIVITIES OF ROMAN SHUKHEVYCH AND THE UKRAINIAN REBELLION ARMY

From September 29 to October 9, 2023, the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) conducted an all-Ukrainian survey commissioned by the Liberation Movement Research Center and the "Democratic Initiatives" Foundation. By the method of computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI) based on a random sample of mobile phone numbers (with random generation of phone numbers and subsequent statistical weighting), 1,010 respondents living in all regions of Ukraine (except AR of Crimea) were interviewed. The survey was conducted with adult (aged 18 and older) citizens of Ukraine who, at the time of the survey, lived on the territory of Ukraine (within the boundaries controlled by the Ukrainian authorities until February 24, 2022). The sample did not include residents of territories that were not temporarily controlled by the authorities of Ukraine until February 24, 2022 (AR of Crimea, the city of Sevastopol, certain districts of the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts), and the survey was not conducted with citizens abroad.

Formally, under normal circumstances, the statistical error of such a sample (with a probability of 0.95 and taking into account the design effect of 1.1) did not exceed 3.4% for indicators close to 50%, 3.0% for indicators close to 25%, 2.1% - for indicators close to 10%, 1.5% - for indicators close to 5%.

When elections should be held, attitudes towards online voting and attitudes towards possible restrictions on citizens' rights: results of a telephone survey conducted on September 30-October 11, 2023

From September 30 to October 13, 2023, the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) conducted an all-Ukrainian public opinion survey "Omnibus", which included questions about when elections should be held and about attitudes to the possible restriction of citizens' rights during the recovery period. Bythemethodofcomputer-assistedtelephoneinterviews (CATI) based on a random sample of mobile phone numbers (with random generation of phone numbers and subsequent statistical weighting), 2,007 respondents living in all regions of Ukraine (except the Autonomous Republic of Crimea) were interviewed. The survey was conducted with adult (aged 18 and older) citizens of Ukraine who, at the time of the survey, lived on the territory of Ukraine (within the boundaries controlled by the Ukrainian authorities until February 24, 2022).

The press release also presents the results of the parallel wave of the "Omnibus" (also conducted by the method of telephone interviews) regarding the attitude to remote voting via the Internet. This question was asked to 1010 respondents (formal error – 2.4%). In addition, KIIS asked this question earlier in November 2021, so the corresponding dynamics are given.

Under conditions of war, in addition to the specified formal error, a certain systematic deviation is added. However, despite certain factors that may affect the quality of the results in "wartime" conditions, in general, we believe that the obtained results still retain a high degree of representativeness and allow a fairly reliable analysis of the public moods of the population.

MEDIA CONSUMPTION IN LIBERATED AND FRONTLINE TERRITORIES

During August 7-12, 2023, KIIS conducted a survey of residents of 10 front-line regions on behalf of the "Ukraine Transformation Communications Activity" project, which is a USAID program implemented by Chemonics International Inc. in Ukraine.

The research was supported by the American people through the U. S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

1,000 interviews were conducted with adult residents of the frontline regions using the online interview method.

Under normal circumstances, the statistical error of the total sample (with a probability of 0.95 and without taking into account the design effect and peculiarities of the applied research method) did not exceed 3.1%. At the same time, under conditions of war, additional systematic deviations of the sample caused by the consequences of Russian aggression may occur. It is also necessary to take into account the peculiarities of the method used (online interview).
