Thoughts and views of the population on teaching the Russian language in Ukrainian-speaking schools and granting autonomy as a part of Ukraine to the uncontrolled territories of Donbas: March 2019
46% of the Ukrainians speak mostly or only the Ukrainian language with their closest relatives i.e. parents, grandparents, brothers, and sisters (including 32.4% who speak only Ukrainian). Also, 28.1% of the Ukrainians speak mostly or only Russian language (including 15.8% who communicate only in Russian). Another 24.9% of the Ukrainians speak Ukrainian and Russian in equal proportion. Also, 0,2% speak other languages, 0.7% were undecided or refused to answer the question.

Attitude of the population of Ukraine toward Russia and of the population of Russia toward Ukraine, September 2018
The number of the Ukrainians who hold positive attitude to Russia increased a bit since February 2018 (even though it is not statistically significant) and now constitutes 48% (it was 45%). In Russia, the number of positively disposed to Ukraine people has not changed and still is 33%. However, the attitude of the Ukrainian population toward Russia has been remaining better than the attitude of Russia's population towards Ukraine since 2008 (when we started the monitoring process).

Interethnic bias in Ukraine
- The lowest level of ethnic prejudices in Ukraine is to Ukrainians, Belarusians and Russians, the highest - to the Chinese, Africans, Arabs and especially high level of prejudice to the Roma. - From 1994 to 2007, the level of xenophobia in Ukraine increased (in 2007 it was the highest over the entire period of observation), decreased slightly from 2008 to 2013, slightly increased after the annexation of the Crimea and the war on the Donbas from 2014 to 2018 and returned to the level of 2011 year - Xenophobia is most influenced by factors such as education (the higher education - the lower the level of xenophobia), type of settlement (the level of xenophobia is higher in villiage than in the city), region of residence, financial status (the higher the level of well-being the lower the level xenophobia) and age (with age, the level of xenophobia increases).

Migration intentions of the population of Ukraine in April 2018
According to a recent KIIS poll, 7% of adult Ukrainians plan to go abroad in the next six months for the long-term stays, work, study or emigration, but most of them have not taken any concrete steps for this yet. The most popular country among those who want to leave Ukraine is Poland.

Attitude of the population of Ukraine toward Russia and of the population of Russia toward Ukraine, September 2017
The number of the Ukrainians who hold positive attitude to Russia has slightly decreased since May 2017 and in September 2017 was 37% (in May it was 44%). The number of positively disposed to Ukraine people in Russia slightly increased, and in September 2017 it was 32% (it was 26% in May). The attitude of the Ukrainian population to Russia have been better than the attitude of Russia's population towards Ukraine since 2008. Compared to May 2017, the support for the independence of Ukraine practically did not change: almost 90% of the population believe that Ukraine should be an independent state. At the same time, the number of those who want closed borders and customs with Russia is 49% (it was 43% before). In Russia, compared to May 2017, the number of those who want closed borders and customs with Ukraine has not changed much (decreased from 35% to 34%). |
